WordPress before 4.9.9 and 5.x before 5.0.1 allows remote code execution because an _wp_attached_file Post Meta entry can be changed to an arbitrary string, such as one ending with a .jpg?file.php substring. An attacker with author privileges can execute arbitrary code by uploading a crafted image containing PHP code in the Exif metadata. Exploitation can leverage CVE-2019-8943.
CVE-2019-8942
Score elevated to 9.0 because EPSS predicts 83% probability of exploitation within the next 30 days (top 0.4% of all CVEs). NVD baseline CVSS 8.8 retained for reference. Confidence: see factors.
- 1,460 internet-exposed hosts are running an affected version right now
- High exploitation likelihood — EPSS 83%
- Public exploit code is available (Metasploit, Exploit-DB (verified), epss top5pct, epss high, public exploit)
No vendor fix yet — apply a workaround or compensating control (WAF / firewall / segmentation) and watch for a patch.

EchelonGraph is the only CVE feed that fuses live vulnerability intelligence with its own live internet-exposure radar — so you see not just that a CVE is exploited, but how much of the internet is exposed to it right now.
