CVE-2026-76642

HIGHPre-NVD 7.87.8
EchelonGraph scoreMEDIUM confidence

This high-severity CVE scores 7.8 under a secondary CVSS source (NVD's own analysis pending). EPSS exploit probability: 0.2%, top 93% of all CVEs by exploit prediction. GitHub Security Advisory data not yet ingested — confidence will rise once GHSA publishes (typical lag: hours to days for open-source ecosystem CVEs; never for infrastructure-only CVEs).

A fix is available — apply it.

util-linux versions through 2.41.5 and 2.42.2 fail to check mount helper exit status before running post-mount hooks, allowing unprivileged users to execute privileged operations on pre-existing filesystems. Attackers can exploit X-mount.idmap or X-mount.owner hooks to clone filesystems with inherited suid bits or modify target inode permissions after a helper fails, achieving privilege escalation.
