Stack-based buffer overflow in the HTrjis function in Lynx 2.8.6 and earlier allows remote NNTP servers to execute arbitrary code via certain article headers containing Asian characters that cause Lynx to add extra escape (ESC) characters.
CVE-2005-3120
This critical-severity CVE scores 9.8 under NVD CVSS v3. EPSS exploit probability: 23.3%, top 2% of all CVEs by exploit prediction. GitHub Security Advisory data not yet ingested — confidence will rise once GHSA publishes (typical lag: hours to days for open-source ecosystem CVEs; never for infrastructure-only CVEs).
- Public exploit code is available (Exploit-DB (verified), epss top5pct, public exploit)
